Celebrate Banned Books Week! PDF Print

Read a Banned BookFree Your Mind: Read a Banned Book

September 24 - October 1

Banned Books Week, launched in 1982 by the American Library Association, raises awareness of censorship, celebrates the freedom to read, and the importance of the First Amendment.  More than 11,000 books have been challenged since 1982, click here for a map.  People challenge books that they believe have offensive language and/or subject matter in schools and libraries.  Look for our display of banned books in the Teen Area and Adult Services.  Visit our guide to Banned Books Week and celebrate your freedom to read!
